Boys Program Philosophy
The boys program began in 2001, with one Level III Residential Agency in Chandler. Homes are in chandler and Peoria. There are plans to open additional homes in casa grande. Each residential agencies is licensed for seven young men.
|
Discipline:
The program strives for structure and consistency. Creating an environment that young men can adapt and learn the expectations is important to their growth. The young men respond to comprehending new expectations and the satisfaction of meeting a new expectation. The staff team is training to ensure the structure of the home is fair, consistent and conducive to meeting new challenges and expectations.
|
Desire:
The boys need and crave accomplishments. The staff team works with the young men to identify daily goals that will challenge them to fulfill their treatment plan expectations and to explore new activities.
|
Development:
The program pushes, prods and provokes young men to learn and grow. This is not a place to be idle. The young men will have the challenge of functioning in the community as productive community members regardless of their individual case histories. This absolutely can be done, but the young men need to challenge themselves to learn new things, try different activities, and understand that he is capable of doing a lot of different things.
|
Discipline, Desire and Development are obtained through different means. The young men will develop a physical regime program. Each residential agency has a membership to a local gym or YMCA program. Their daily activities schedule will ensure they are working out at least three times a week.
Employment is important to each young man's development. A job is an excellent way to learn "Real World" expectations. Learning to obtain and utilize performance feedback, learning new skills and understanding what makes an individual employable are all experiences that will carry forward to future life decisions.
Education, whether public or an alternative program, will provide young men the foundation to improve their self-confidence. NHYH obtains weekly reports from teachers to assist in the young man meeting his education goals. Each home has tools and resources available to complete their education.
