Why are we unique

There are three components that make us different from other residential agencies. They are the home environment, treatment and a zero-tolerance policy

 Home Environment
Our homes are community based. We define our home environment as clean, respectful and secure. The home environment takes us a step beyond other residential agencies. We are not babysitters for young children. Our staff team is educated and trained to build relationships with our clients. Most of our residents have never experienced the support of a parent. As pseudo parents, our staff members set boundaries, set expectations and challenge these young adults to make sound decisions. There are resources and activities available that are structured to provide memorable, healthy, age-appropriate learning experiences.
 Treatment
New Horizon Youth Home, Inc. exceeds the minimum state requirements for resident counseling. We are a firm believers that dysfunctional environments during fundamental development years can not be resolved overnight. NHYH also does not believe problems can be resolved with one form of treatment. We provide counseling in multiple forums tailored to individual circumstances. NHYH works with placement agencies to utilize and partner with new or on-going services provided outside of our agencies. In addition, the staff team is trained to utilize daily challenges, client goal-setting and structured activities to challenge and promote the growth of all of our residents. Change is constant and part of the "Real World" teaching the residents to have proper social skills, good decision-making skills and adapt to different circumstances is key to their treatment and program at NHYH.
 Zero-Tolerance
NHYH will work with young adults in obtaining employment or enrolling in vocational skills training. In addition, residents are enrolled in public high school or a general equivalency diploma program. Each client is required to live their lives in a moral and respectful way. If a client is not willing to commit to program and live within the NHYH boundaries will be discharged from the program. There are many children who want and need an opportunity to build a new life. We prefer to make room for a resident willing and appreciative of that opportunity. Discharging a client is not a rash or quick decision. The NHYH Staff team will work with all of the client's representatives to communicate issues and to define different approaches to engage a resident. However, the program will ultimately not be successful if the young adult does not agree with and follow the program.
